Sport is rated very highly in Norwegian society, to the point that people believe it can save them from nearly anything, a bit like a religion. Certain famous sports personalities, especially cross-country skiers are elevated to the status of saints. Meanwhile politicians are getting less and less trustworthy by the day. The then newly elected Labour Party were a disappointment for many and seemed to be more interested in money than the previous government.
